As important of a role the photographer plays in the photo session, perhaps your role as the subject is even more important. You need to give me an idea of what you would like to see when you look at your proofs. As vauge is it may be, anything will help. Not to say that I can't take you and take total control over the photo shoot, but I really don't want to do that. Most people have an image in their head already of what they hope thier photographs will look like, so communication is key.
Here are some examples of good ideas for clothing for men and women. It's likely that you have something comparable to most of this stuff already, but if not the most expensive thing here was $25.00.
Basically, just keep it simple. No crazy colors and no graphic t's.
With that said, you don't want to look like someone you're not. Choose clothes that you feel and look great in, and feel free to bring several options. We can narrow them down once we get the session going. Also, feel free to brings props! Whether it's a hat, jacket, jewelery, some awesome shoes, your cool car, or anything else, props are always good. They reflect you and give your session a unique look.
For a child session, you can really have fun with props. Maybe you have something with your child's name on it, or clothes that you wear that are way too big for your child; example: dad's tie and dress shoes, mom's lipstick, favorite necklace, and shoes. Anything like that is sure to turn out great. Hats, stuffed animals, flowers, rain boots, these are just a few things that would put a personal touch on your pictures.
Another good idea is to look at pictures. Go through your favorite magazine or look online. Find stuff that you like, and feel free to bring them along with you to your shoot.
Most of us have our insecurities. Don't hesitate tell to me if there is something that you dislike about yourself so that we accentuate the things you do.
Location also plays a huge role. It will be discussed in depth during consultation. You want a place that reflects you. Typically, sessions are done in a city setting or in nature, ie. a creek, a barn, a field. Studio Sessions are also available.
The day of the session....HAVE FUN! Be yourself and just accomplish your goal. I'm not there to judge, I'm just taking your picture. I'm not going to laugh at you because you had a weird expression on your face or anything like that. Chances are if you look at me long enough, you'll be the one laughing at me! I just want my clients to have the best experience possible. Give me a chance and I will do all that I can to do just that.
